EUROPARC Federation - new opportunities for cooperation

To strengthen the cooperation over the borders, the partners of Pasvik-Inari Trilateral Park applied for and received the Transboundary Parks...following nature's design -certificate, in 2008. Pasvik-Inari Trilateral Park confrmed its certificate from 2008, in 2013 and in 2018.

Since changes in international relations after 2022, cooperation in the region has been adjusted. Two Russian protected areas are no longer included, and the former Pasvik–Inari Trilateral Park now continues as the Pasvik–Inari Transboundary Area. Despite this, Norway and Finland remain committed to nature conservation, sustainable management, and cross-border dialogue. From 2024/2025, we continue our bilateral cooperation, reaffirmed by the EUROPARC Transboundary Protected Area re-certification in autumn 2025.

The EUROPARC Transboundary park criteria provide managers of transboundary protected areas with tools to maintain a long lasting, high quality cooperation for nature management in the future. The transboundary certificate brings national and international recognition to the work of the recipient parks, and raises the profile of the Pasvik-Inari area.

Pasvik-Inari TBA also takes actively part in the EUROPARC Transboundary Parks Network (TPN).
